Initially, the Damanhur branch of the University of Alexandria aimed at completing the necessary ingredients for establishing Damanhur University on the scientific and economic basis by adopting the idea of unified scientific departments as well as the economic management of the university and adding new colleges to the Damanhur branch that has continued for more than a quarter of a century since its establishment in the late seventies until 2006, the number of its colleges does not exceed four, namely (Education - Agriculture - Arts - Commerce) until the Republic's decisions were issued by adding three new colleges, namely (Science - Nursing - Veterinary Medicine) and then the University Council decided to establish branches for some colleges in Damanhour which are: (Pharmacy - Kindergarten - Law) on the academic year 2007/2008.
Finally, President Hosni Mubarak issued a Republican Decree on 10/26/2010 establishing the University of Damanhur. The decision stipulates the cancellation of the Alexandria University branch in Damanhur and the annexation of colleges affiliated to this canceled branch to Damanhur University as the President’s decision requires that The university includes 12 colleges:
(Arts, commerce, agriculture, education, nursing, science, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, kindergarten, medicine, dentistry, engineering), in addition to the Institute for Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, "the Faculty of Computers and Information, and the Faculty of Specific Education.
